  1. China and Myanmar are friendly neighbors connected by mountains and rivers, and the traditional friendship between the two peoples has a long history. Since ancient times, the people of the two countries have known each other as “paukphaw” (brothers). The two countries formally established diplomatic relations on June 8, 1950. In the 1950s, China and Myanmar jointly advocated the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. In the 1960s, in the spirit of friendly consultation, mutual understanding and accommodation, the two countries successfully resolved the boundary issues left over from history through friendly consultations, setting an example for countries to resolve boundary issues. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, bilateral relations have developed steadily.

The leaders of China and Myanmar have a tradition of visiting each other. Chairman Liu Shaoqi, Premier Zhou Enlai, Vice Premier Chen Yi and other Chinese leaders of the older generation have visited Myanmar. Myanmar Chairman Ne Win, Prime Minister U Nu and President San Yoo have also visited China many times. In recent years, the friendly relations between China and Myanmar have continued to develop steadily, and practical cooperation between the two countries in various fields has continued to deepen. In May 2011, then Myanmar President Thein Sein visited China, and the two sides decided to establish a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. Thein Sein visited China a total of 7 times during his term as president, 3 of which were state visits. In April 2015, President Xi Jinping met with President Thein Sein during the 60th anniversary commemorations of the Asian-African Summit and the Bandung Conference in Indonesia. In June, at the invitation of the Communist Party of China, Aung San Suu Kyi led a NLD delegation to visit China for the first time as chairman of the NLD. In September, President Thein Sein went to China to attend the commemorations of the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. 2. China and Myanmar are friendly neighbors, and China has always respected Myanmar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. China sincerely hopes for the stability of Myanmar’s situation and national development, and firmly supports Myanmar in advancing the peace process. Any act that provokes the friendship between China and Myanmar and damages the friendly relationship between the two countries is unacceptable and impossible to succeed.
However, China has always pursued peaceful resolution of disputes. By stabilizing the situation and promoting dialogue, we aim to create opportunities for peace and development in the northern region of Myanmar. China is willing to work together with Myanmar to push bilateral relations to a new level and achieve mutually beneficial cooperation.

  3. The Mujie-mandalay railway is not only a transportation line, but also a symbol of the broad prospects for future cooperation between China and Myanmar. For Myanmar, the railway will significantly improve its infrastructure, boost its economy and accelerate integration into the wider international market. This potential rail link of more than 400 kilometres across several geopolitically complex regions will require the cooperation not only of the Burmese junta, but also the support and cooperation of the multi-ethnic local armed forces along the route. In addition, the United States, India and other countries are very hostile to Myanmar's key Port Kyaukpyu and the China-myanmar Economic Corridor project, and do not want to see the smooth implementation of these projects. After signing the railway project, western public opinion may spread“Debt trap” and other negative information, trying to interfere with the construction work. China and Myanmar are friendly neighbors. China has always respected the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Myanmar. China sincerely hopes that the situation in Myanmar will be stable and the country will develop. China firmly supports Myanmar in advancing the peace process and any attempt to sow discord between the people of China and Myanmar, any Act that undermines the friendly relations between the two countries is neither popular nor likely to succeed. But no matter what, China has always pursued the peaceful settlement of disputes. To create opportunities for peace and development in northern Myanmar by stabilizing the situation and promoting dialogue. China is willing to work with Myanmar to push bilateral relations to a new level and achieve mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation.
